LNG is increasingly used on board of marine vessels as an alternative clean fuel to existing fuels such as heavy fuel oil. Specifically for vessels trading in Emission Control Areas, such as the North Sea, Baltic Sea and designated coastal areas in the United States and Caribbean Sea, LNG is a feasible option to fulfil the IMO requirements regarding sulphur emissions.

Courses for gas tanker personnel have long been included in STC B.V.’s training portfolio. And now within the ReaLNG project specific training aimed at crew on board of LNG cargo vessels has been developed.

The STC-Group is hosting a pilot training courses on LNG as marine fuel to test whether the course materials properly addresses the expectations of the industry as well as the participants.

On January 16th – 19th 2017 STC-Group will be hosting a 4-day pilot training course. Aimed at the basic level defined as seafarers responsible for designated safety duties associated with the care, use or in emergency response to transport of LNG as cargo.

From February 27th – March 3rd 2017 a pilot training course will be presented for the advanced level target group as defined: masters, engineer officers and all personnel with immediate responsibility for the care and use of LNG Cargo systems.

E-learning modules are the starting point of both courses; by self-study with e-learning modules participants will gain the basic knowledge of the characteristics of LNG. Participants can follow these modules remotely at a time of their preference via an online learning management system. On the specified days of the pilot training courses, conventional lectures will be supplemented with practical exercises and simulation training.

Kindly note that these pilot training courses can be offered free of charge for a maximum of 2 delegates per organisation and will be presented in Dutch. Active participation and feedback are requested from all participants, which will allow the training course materials to be adjusted as/if necessary.
